STEPS: To add a Family

Step 1: Access “Work with Family Groups”
Step 2: Search the Family database
Step 3: Key the Person Number of the head of household
Step 4: Add Family Members
Step 5: Create the Family Unit

A family group is a set of persons linked together. Typically, the group resides at the same physical location. The system will let one person be a member of more than one family group. However, we recommend that, unless your agency has specific reasons otherwise, you limit membership to one group. Family groups are the key to eligibility for public assistance programs and are indicators of family stability in the services programs, we believe that having a clear definition of group membership is important.

In the guides we refer to household and family groups. The meaning is the same. The terms are interchangeable.

The primary benefit of taking the time to establish and maintain the group is that the system will automatically send messages to affected worker when the composition changes. A change in composition is an addition or removal of a person from the group.  Every worker who has any member of the group in his caseload when the change occurs will be sent an electronic message. The system sends the electronic message and places a miscellaneous message in the worker's activity window. For information about activity windows, see the "Work with Case Activities" guide in the Cases volume 4.

The Family Index groups persons into one or more family/household relationships. Persons can belong to multiple groups. Identifies persons by family unit and relationship to head of household.
