AS/400, ONECase, and Network Passwords

Even though you have only one ID, you may have up to three passwords -- one for the network, one for the AS/400 server, and one for ONECase itself. They may start out the same but the different expiration rules will ultimately make them different -- unless the worker is diligent about keeping them the same.

You should make every effort possible to make the ID the same for each of the local systems. Indeed, there are few good reasons that the local IDs should be different. Your workers will be happier users if they can use the same password for each local system. Resourceful workers will figure out how to make this happen. To achieve this objective, the passwords will have to expire on the same intervals.

Every User ID has a unique password. Each Worker is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password and for changing it periodically.

The ONECase password

ONECase assigns a default password when the worker is first added to the Worker File. It can be used for one sign on. The first time the worker signs on to the system, he/she will be required to tell the system what password they want to use for future sign on activities. It is the responsibility of the worker to protect the identity of their own password. To assist the worker, each password will expire periodically and a new password will have to be assigned by the worker. As an added precaution, a password may not be used again until the fifth cycle of password expiration and reassignment.

If a worker forgets their password, one individual within each Provider/Agency can be granted the ability to change the worker's current password to the default password. The next time the worker signs on to the system, a new password assignment will be required.

When an individual tries to sign on to the ONECase System, unsuccessful attempts are logged and counted. After a predetermined number of unsuccessful attempts to sign on with an incorrect password, the terminal will be put out of service for a period of time.

The worker's password is validated during the first sign on of each day. Worker's should sign off when they will be gone from their terminal for an extended period of time such as lunch hour or at the end of the day.

The default ONECase password

When a Worker ID is first added to ONECase, the system assigns a default password that can only be used for one sign-on. The first time a worker signs on to the system, she will be required to change the password from the default to one that she concocts. That password will be in effect until the worker changes it.

If a worker forgets her ONECase password, the system administrator can change the password back to the default through the "Change Worker Password" option. The next time the worker signs on to the system, a new password assignment will be required.

ONECase counts unsuccessful attempts to sign-on and will lock the workstation after the count exceeds the value defined on the Controls screen. The workstation will remain out-of-service for the time period defined on the Controls screen. When this happens, the worker should ask the system administrator for another password or -- better yet -- key the correct password.
