THE NETWORK
howto: Connect to the AS/400e server over the internet
Your AS/400 server, workstations, and printers are connected to each other by a network. The network enables
workstations to connect not only to the AS/400 server but also other local servers and the state network. Thus,
a user at one workstation can access a theoretically unlimited number of servers. Servers are simply
computers which run programs for more than one user.
After your network is set up, the ONE/Case system administrator's role is to bring the network
'up' when it goes 'down'. You will know the network is 'up' when at least one of your users can access the AS/400
Sign On screen by pressing the icon on the PC desktop. If you can access the AS/400 from a
'dumb' terminal but no one can access it from a PC, the network is probably 'down'.

Is the network hung up?
If you suspect that the network is down, check the status by executing a command called Work with
Configuration Status. You will type the following command:
wrkcfgsts *lin
The AS/400 will display a screen similar to the one shown below. The network lines will probably be named
words that begin with the letters ETH. You can see them in the screen. Examine the Status of the lines. If
the Status is ACTIVE, your network is up. If the Status is RCYPND, the AS/400 is trying unsuccessfully to
recover from the problem that caused the network to malfunction. You must stop the network, reset the
ETH lines, and then start the network again.
To stop the network, type the following command:
endtcp
After you have stopped the network, go back to the WRKCFGSTS command and 'Vary
Off' each of the three
lines that have 'RCYPND' in the Status column.
Restart the Network
To restart TCP/IP, key the following commands on a command line:
STRTCP
After that command finishes, key this command:
STRHOSTSVR *ALL
If you PCs still cannot access the AS/400, you have another problem. Call Cox & Company.
